Our Parents’ Association AGM will take place in the school hall on Monday 25th September at 7pm.
A Parent Association is the structure through which parents/guardians in a school can work together for the best possible education for their children. The Parent Association work with the principal Mr. Duggan, staff and the board of management to build effective partnerships between home and school. Educational research on the involvement of parents in schools shows that children achieve higher levels when parents and teachers work together.
Our current Parents’ Association Chairperson, Deirdre Murphy along with Mr. Duggan (Principal), Trish Kenneally (Secretary) and Nora Bradfield (Treasurer) will address you on the night. We’ll chat to you about the function of a Parents’ Association, recount the minutes from last year’s AGM and read you a summary of our Treasurer’s report. We’ll also briefly mention how the Parents’ Association have enhanced the lives of our pupils through social events, fundraising events, policy formation eg healthy eating and uniforms, guest speakers we have previously invited into the school and much more.
An important function of an AGM is to appoint a working committee for the academic year which can work on behalf of all the parents in the school. The size of this group can vary depending upon the size of the school. For a school of our size an appropriate number would be approximately 16 members and where possible it would be helpful if there was a general spread of parents from each of our classes within that committee. This committee would then work on your behalf to enhance the lives and everyday experience of our pupils until a new committee is formed again the following Autumn.
On the night, current members can re-nominate themselves as well as new parents who have not been members up to this point. If we end up with approx. 16 or so members, you will automatically become a member. However if we receive interest from a number of parents far exceeding 16, we will hold an election with those present at the AGM.
We look forward to seeing you there.
Regards,
Mr. Duggan (Principal)
Deirdre Murphy (Chairperson Parents’ Association)
